Plans for new Tappan Zee Bridge shown to public

Posted: Updated:

Transit officials unveiled plans for a new Tappan Zee Bridge to commuters in West Nyack yesterday.

Local residents who say they have concerns about a massive building project in their neighborhood attended an open house at the Palisades Mall.

Michael Anderson, the project manager, says they are presenting the public with six bridge options. All of the plans would at least double the width of the span to four car lanes in either direction. They also include two bus lanes, a train trestle and bike path.

If funding is secured for the multibillion-dollar plan to replace the current aging span, construction could begin as early as 2013.
