Long-term construction begins on Route 59

Posted: Updated:

A day Rockland County drivers had been dreading arrived yesterday when construction began on Route 59.

The construction, which is expected to last almost two years, will make reaching the Palisades Center Mall a chore for many drivers.

The plan, which has been in the works for years, includes rebuilding bridges, adding traffic lanes and sidewalks and raising the roadway in front of the mall to prevent future flooding.

To watch extended footage and interviews about the repair work beginning on Route 59, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and select iO Extra.
