CSEA members held a rally in Goshen yesterday, protesting a proposed study that may recommend shutting down the county-run Valley View nursing home.
The fight to keep the 350-bed facility open is personal for many of the people who gathered at the Orange County Government Center. If the facility closes, protesters say many patients will have nowhere to live and 500 workers will lose their jobs.
"I've been working here 30 years," says Valley View nurse Connie Roach. "I'll be forced into early retirement."
Independence Party legislator Michael Amo proposed the study. He says it costs the county $56 million annually to run Valley View.
