The parents of a 14-year-old boy who was charged with bringing a pellet gun to school in Blauvelt say the weapon wasn't theirs.

The eight-grade student is accused of pointing the pellet gun at a teacher at South Orangetown Middle School Tuesday and then allegedly trying to carjack passing vehicles near the school. The 14-year-old was eventually subdued by a retired police officer.

Since it's illegal in New York state for anyone younger than 16 years to buy or possess an air gun, firearms consultant Fred Baldus says there are only two ways the boy could have gotten it; he either stole it, or had an older relative or friend buy it for him.
