Local pols participate in Renew New York panel

Cablevision, the parent company of News 12, and Newsday invited politicians from across New York to address viewers' questions and concerns on the state's financial situation at a forum at Hofstra University today.
The Renew New York forum aimed to find out what voters across the state think about what's happening in Albany, the effect it may or may not be having on local schools and who people think is to blame for New York's problems.
1,500 registered voters living in New York were questioned by phone interview. Thirty-five percent of those polled say class sizes in schools need to increase, and another 27 percent said that salaries and benefits should be cut.
Nineteen percent of viewers say they think raising property taxes is the right solution, and 17 percent said they think layoffs are the answer.
