The Ramapo Town Board held a public hearing this week on rezoning a property to construct a minor league baseball stadium.
Officials want a 3,500-seat baseball stadium to be built on 62 acres off Firemen's Memorial Drive in Pomona at the estimated cost of $20 million.
Some local residents say it's bad timing, considering the ongoing economic crisis.
However, Town Attorney Michael Klein says the stadium will provide an economic boost by creating more than 100 jobs.
The Town of Ramapo hopes to have the project approved in the coming months and break ground in the summer. The stadium is expected to open in June 2011.
