Thousands of local commuters who use New Jersey Transit will soon have to spend more money.
Transit fare will increase by 25 percent starting May 1. The hike will affect commuters who use the Suffern train station as well as bus riders in Warwick and Greenwood Lake.
New Jersey Transit is also laying off 200 employees and freezing spending to balance its budget.
