Police find body in search for missing boy

Posted: Updated:

Police say they found a body Wednesday that matches the description of a missing 4-year-old boy from Newburgh.

Marc Bookal has been missing since Dec. 14 after spending the day with his mother's boyfriend, Cory Byrd, who has not been charged in his disappearance.

According to investigators, cadaver dogs found the body in a wooded area not far from the home where Bookal was last seen, near Edwards and Renwick streets in Newburgh.

That area had been extensively searched by police officers and K-9 teams since the boy's disappearance, raising the possibility that the body had been moved there recently.

Byrd remains incarcerated on parole violation charges.
