Spring Valley fires erupt across from each other
Nearly a dozen people were left homeless after two fires in Spring Valley and Chestnut Ridge destroyed two homes across the street from one another.
A two-alarm blaze erupted Thursday night, destroying a Chestnut Ridge home along Old Nyack Turnpike. Investigators say the cause of that fire appears to be electrical.
Hours later, around 6 a.m., a second fire broke out at 34 Lunney Court, and although it was contained to one apartment, about a dozen people in four of the surrounding units were forced out of their homes.
Two firefighters who responded to the Lunney Court blaze were hospitalized for exhaustion and smoke inhalation. Both have since been released.
