Lox kosher controversy resolved

Posted: Updated:

Ultra-orthodox Jews can now once again enjoy lox on their bagels without hesitation, that after the resolution of a controversy regarding the kosher status of salmon.

The misunderstanding surrounding the popular snack began after a Monsey organization called Chevra Mehadrin published a report on fish and Jewish law.

Yisroel Neiman, a member of Chevra Mehadrin, says a media organization then reported that lox was not kosher, and attributed that information to the group's report.

Neiman insists that Chevra Mehadrin's report never mentioned that lox is not kosher. Furthermore, the organization doesn't have the authority to make that determination.
