Police have identified the charred remains found at a Rockland Park on Monday as 24-year-old Patricia Belizaire, of New Jersey.
The medical examiner says the cause of death is asphyxiation, and Belizaire died before being set on fire.
Authorities also say she is the mother of a 2-year-old girl abandoned at a Delaware service station.
Police have arrested the girl's father, Dwayne Jackson, of Edison, N.J., and charged him with kidnapping the child and killing Belizaire. Jackson is being held on $2 million bail.
