Judge tosses 'Black Sunday' convictions

A Bronx judge on Tuesday threw out the guilty verdicts in the "Black Sunday" trial involving the deaths of two firefighters, one of whom was from Pearl River.
The landlord of the Bronx building that went up in flames five years ago, Cesar Rios, was found guilty in 2009 of criminally negligent homicide and reckless endangerment because of illegal partitions that trapped the firefighters. John Bellew, of Pearl River, and Curtis Meyran were forced to jump to their deaths.
Bronx Supreme Court Judge Margaret Clancy said in her ruling Tuesday that Rios did not knowingly endanger anyone.
A guilty verdict against the building's management company was also tossed.
