A look at would-be Newburgh site of 9/11 trials
News 12 toured Newburgh's new courthouse Tuesday, taking a closer look at the facility that is being proposed as the site for the Sept. 11 terror trials.
The 50,000-square-foot courthouse has three courtrooms. Each room contains 10 benches for lawyers, law enforcement, reporters and spectators.
The lobby of the courthouse features a security post with guards, X-ray machines and metal detectors. Mayor Nicholas Valentine says if the trials are held in town, he expects the federal government to provide enhanced security for the city and the courthouse.
Meanwhile, the state Senate passed a resolution urging President Barack Obama to move the 9/11 trials back to the military tribunal system.
