Mumps outbreak hits Monsey, New Square
Health officials say the largest U.S. mumps outbreak in years is being monitored in Monsey and New Square.
Authorities say more than 300 cases of the mumps, a virus whose symptoms include fever and swollen glands, have been confirmed so far in the Hasidic Jewish communities.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the outbreak began last summer at an Orthodox boys camp upstate and then spread to Orange and Rockland counties and parts of Brooklyn.
