Newburgh residents torn over 9/11 trialsPosted: Updated:
Newburgh residents remain divided on the controversial proposal of Mayor Nicholas Valentine to host the Sept. 11 terrorist trials in their town.
Those who favor the plan to move the trials from lower Manhattan to Newburgh cite financial gains to be made, since the Obama administration has offered $200 million for security to the city willing to hold the trials.
Some, however, continue to strongly oppose the idea of bringing suspected terrorists into their backyard.
Mayor Valentine says he is waiting for the federal government to contact him about moving the trials to Newburgh.
