Blauvelt school mourns over student's death
A Blauvelt middle school opened its doors despite Monday's Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and offered students grief counseling after a sixth-grader was killed over the weekend.
Authorities say the 11-year-old boy, Jordan Barreto, was struck and killed Saturday afternoon while crossing Route 9W near Oaktree Road in Palisades.
No charges have been filed in the accident.
