In an effort to prevent drunken drivers hitting the road on New Year's Eve, more than a dozen Hudson Valley cab companies have teamed up to offer free rides.

The free taxi program was organized by Dana Distributors, a Hudson Valley beer company. Organizers say residents will be able to tell most Hudson Valley bartenders they need a ride home, surrender their keys and hop into a cab provided by Safe Ride or another company.

The free rides will be offered starting at 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve until 2 a.m.
