NY State Police investigator dies after fall

Posted: Updated:

A New York State Police investigator who served in Iraq and Afghanistan with the Army National Guard was killed while making repairs on a home in Walden.

Richard O'Brien, 42, was on an extension ladder Monday repairing the siding on 29 Pleasant Ave. when he fell, sustaining head and internal injuries, authorities say.

O'Brien did not live in the home, but owned the property. Neighbors say he was around often and an influential and friendly member of the community.

A statement released by state police says, "Investigator O'Brien provided 13 years of dedicated service to the citizens of New York, working every day with an enthusiasm and commitment to excellence unmatched by his peers."

O'Brien is survived by his wife, who is pregnant.
