Cops: Ramapo baby nearly drowns in pail
A 16-month-old baby from Ramapo is fighting for his life after police say he fell into a garbage container full of water Wednesday.
Police were called to Natural Food Market on Chestnut Ridge Road shortly before noon after receiving a call about a boy not breathing. Paramedics performed CPR on the child and were able to revive him.
Authorities say the baby's mother, who lives near the market, was talking to a neighbor when she realized her child wandered off. When the woman discovered her baby in the garbage pail, she called for help.
The baby remains in critical condition. No charges are expected to be filed against the mother.
