A teacher at S.S. Seward Institute was arrested Thursday for allegedly engaging in sexual activities with a female student during after-school activities.
Police say 40-year-old Brian Egan, an English teacher and basketball coach, admitted to having oral sex with a 16-year-old girl on numerous occasions during a seven-month period between 2004 and 2005.
Despite the allegations, many students say they stand by Egan.
"He is and always will be my favorite teacher," says senior Rachael McGinty.
Florida School Superintendent Douglas Burnside said in a statement that the district is conducting an investigation into Egan's actions.
Egan has been charged with third-degree criminal sexual act and released on $2,500 bail.
