Police probe Newburgh identity-theft scams

Police in Orange County are investigating a series of identity-theft scams they say could have affected thousands of unsuspecting people within a few miles.
Town of Newburgh police Lt. Michael Clancy says the scam has led to $100,000 in fraudulent purchases. Clancy says 25 people have stepped forward since last month, but that thousands could have had their identity stolen and not known about it.
Each victim reported getting charged for hundreds of dollars in merchandise they never received.
