Authorities probe suspicious item in Monsey

The Rockland County Sheriff's Bomb Unit was called to Monsey Thursday to investigate a suspicious package discovered in a Pathmark parking lot.
Authorities say the briefcase that was found unattended on Route 59 was empty except for a small electric motor, possibly belonging to a model car. The entire Pathmark parking lot was cleared while investigators examined the item.
"Whoever called did the right thing," says Lt. William Barbera, of the Rockland County Sheriff's Department. "It's a vulnerable area, so a suitcase found in a parking lot did raise some suspicion."
None of the stores in the Pathmark plaza had to be evacuated.
