Newburgh police crime lab to close

The state police crime lab in Newburgh will close in two months, officials say, and evidence gathered in the Hudson Valley will be analyzed at a lab in Albany.
The closure of the lab near Stewart Airport will force 15 workers to commute, relocate or find different jobs. Newburgh Police Sgt. Paul Weber says not having the lab will force him to pay an officer overtime to make the trip to Albany.
Orange County District Attorney Frank Phillips says the closure will create logistical problems in obtaining toxicology results in a timely fashion.
The police barracks in Newburgh was also shuttered. Police say a contract with Port Authority, which runs the airport, is ending.
