Mural lands Nyack artist in trouble
The village of Nyack is taking a local artist to court after officials say she painted her storefront without a permit.
Building and fire inspectors say Carol McIlmurray, who owns The Romp store on Broadway, painted a psychedelic mural on the storefront without permission and splattered paint on the sidewalk. They also say Mcllmurray's business is not equipped with a fire alarm.
McIlmurray, however, says the village is hindering her freedom of expression.
McIlmurray's store remains closed due to code violations. The artist is expected to appear in court Aug. 27.
