'Do not drink' water advisory issued in New City

Posted: Updated:

A 'do not drink' water advisory has been issued for 18 New City homes Friday after crews repairing a water main break accidentally hit a sewer line.

The incident happened on Denver Street at around 1:30 a.m., when a water main burst. A few hours later, the water was shut down in order to make repairs. That is when United Water says the crew ruptured the sewer line.

United Water notified neighbors and left bottled water on doorsteps. Officials advise residents not to drink or cook with tap water for 72 to 96 hours, but it may be used to take showers.
