Funeral held for victim of Pearl River hit-and-run

Friends and family said a final goodbye Friday to a Pearl River man who was killed in an apparent hit-and-run accident last weekend.
Hundreds of mourners filed into St. Gregory's Church in Garnerville to remember Jimmy McNicholas, 36, who was described by his loved ones as a good-hearted and outgoing man.
"He made everybody his best friend," says Eamon Benn. "He made everybody feel special, and we're all lucky to have him around, or we were all lucky to have him around."
Police say McNicholas was crossing North Middletown Road in Pearl River on his way to a strip mall Sunday night when he was hit by a vehicle, possibly an SUV, which took off from the scene.
On Wednesday, investigators released a photo of a flip flop belonging to McNicholas in hopes that it could help find the driver of the vehicle.
Police say the driver could face charges in McNicholas' death, including leaving the scene of an accident and possibly vehicular homicide.
