Orangetown police are searching for a driver they say struck and killed a man Sunday in Pearl River.

Police say 36-year-old James McNicholas was crossing Middletown Road when he was hit just after 1 a.m.

"We have a squad of detectives out canvassing the area for witnesses and/or videotape," says Detective Lt. Jim Brown, of the Orangetown Police Department. "A lot of the stores now have video cameras installed. We're asking for their cooperation and they've been good about it."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call detectives at 845-359-2121.
