The top police officials in Clarkstown and Orangetown are the best-paid employees in both municipalities, officials say.
Orangetown Supervisor Thom Kleiner says it's not unusual for leaders of the police department to be the highest paid workers. Kleiner says the town has done a good job of moderating salaries.
"Our rate of growth and the top salaries are much more modest than some other places, so we've done a good job with that," Kleiner says.
In 2008, the police chief and two captains in Clarkstown made more than $300,000 each. In Orangetown, the top earner was Police Chief Kevin Nulty at $188,000.
