After threat, police patrol Suffern school
Ramapo police stationed a cruiser outside Suffern High School Monday after receiving information that a fight during the weekend might spill over at the school.
Ramapo Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence said social networking sites on the Internet started to pick up chatter over the weekend that there would be retaliation Monday for the alleged beating of a Hispanic student by five white students that took place Saturday night.
St. Lawrence says the extra security will be in place through Wednesday, after which the district has its spring break.
The five students accused in the attack were arrested and charged with assault. Police say the incident is being treated as a hate crime.
