Thiells principal accused of DWI
A Rockland County principal has been charged with DWI after police say he crashed his car with his 6-year-old daughter in the passenger seat.
Police in Croton say Benito Herrero, the principal at Fieldstone Secondary School in Thiells, also hit a telephone pole and several mailboxes last Monday along Albany Post Road.
"The charges against him are extremely serious, especially for someone who is a role model for 1,300 students at a very impressionable age," says North Rockland superintendent Brian Monahan. "Mr. Herrero has been directed to keep our personnel office updated on the progress of the charges."
Herrero is expected to remain the principal at Fieldstone Secondary School. He is scheduled to return to Croton Village court next month.
