Orange, Rockland residents clean up after storm

Posted: Updated:

People across the Hudson Valley were out in full force Thursday, cleaning up the aftermath of the overnight ice storm that downed power lines and left behind slippery sidewalks.

Motorists like Janet Elia, of Middletown, struggled to scrape layers of ice off their vehicles. In the Village of Florida, Ken Adams had an easier time removing ice from the sidewalk outside his store.

?Sun's doing most of the work,? Adams says. ?Just got to wait and let the ice melt a little bit, and then shovel it.?

Since last night, driving conditions in the Hudson Valley have also improved due to the effects of the sun, which thawed sleet and ice covering the roads.

The heavy ice pulled down power lines in some parts of the region, but work crews say they managed to restore power throughout Orange and Rockland counties.
