Con Ed project could cause congestion in Yonkers

Posted: Updated:

A huge Con Edison construction project could cause congestion on some Yonkers roadways starting next week.

The utility is set to dig up five miles of busy roads for a new underground transmission line, called the M29. Those who live in the area of Tuckahoe Road fear the already busy road will become even worse when the project begins.

The new power line will provide improved service for Manhattan. Con Ed says the M29 will carry electricity from the substation on Tuckahoe Road to the Bronx and into Manhattan.

During the construction, Con Ed is paying for a police presence and for an officer from the fire department to oversee traffic.
