Family hopes for miracle in woman's disappearancePosted: Updated:
The family of a missing 25-year-old woman says it is hoping for a Christmas miracle that will lead to her safe return.
Laura Garza was a newly transplanted New Yorker who had left a Texas border town with dreams of becoming a dancer. She has been missing since police say she left a Manhattan nightclub with convicted sex offender Michael Mele, of Middletown.
"The perfect [Christmas] gift would be to know something about my sister," says Nicolas Garza. "That would be the perfect gift."
The search for Garza has led investigators from New York City to the Middletown apartment they believe she visited with Mele, who has not been charged in connection with her disappearance.
Nicolas Garza and his brother, Ivan, flew in from Texas to be closer to the search for their sister, though they admit there's little to suggest Laura is alive and well.
Police say the active search for Garza is on hold until the cold, icy weather improves.
Mele is being held by police on a parole violation.
