Fire ravages house in Mount Vernon
A fire gutted a three-family home in Mount Vernon Saturday morning, leaving an elderly woman homeless.
When firefighters arrived at 406 South First Ave. at around 9:30 a.m., they reportedly managed to get the woman out of the second-floor apartment before the home was fully engulfed in flames.
The property was eventually destroyed, and one neighboring home was damaged as well. Authorities say there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Red Cross is providing the elderly victim with lodging until she finds a permanent place to stay.
