Winter storm hits Hudson Valley

Posted: Updated:

? A winter storm swept through Westchester and the Hudson Valley Friday night, and left a foot of snow in some regions.

The heavy snowfall created whiteout conditions on the roads, resulting in massive traffic delays and multiple car accidents.

According to Walter Khoury, of Orange County Emergency Services, more than 200 motor vehicle incidents were reported, including many pileups on I-84 and the New York State Thruway.

Accidents were reported on the Saw Mill River Parkway, the Sprain Brook Parkway and the Tappan Zee Bridge, where the speed limit was decreased to 35 mph.

In Yonkers, the first major snowstorm of the season shut down the local school district, all public libraries and senior centers. Yonkers Raceway canceled all races on Friday and Saturday. Clarkstown Mini Trans bus service, canceled on Friday, will resume Saturday.

More than 650 flights were canceled from LaGuardia, JFK and Newark airports. Stewart Airport and Westchester County Airport experienced some delays and cancellations.
