New City family searches for dog they rescued
A New City family says a pit bull they adopted after it was rescued from a Yonkers dogfighting ring is missing.
Mitch Rosen, of New City, says when his family arrived home Tuesday they found it had been broken into. A rear window was pushed in and the home's back door was open. The Rosens believe their pit bull Kola, who only has three healthy legs, must have chased the suspect out of the home and lost her way.
The family says Kola has a seriously injured front leg that has swollen up about two to three times its original size. Police say the pit bull got that injury while being used as bait in the Yonkers dogfighting ring.
Police raided a home at 34 Alida St. in March and say they found drugs and 15 caged pit bulls in horrific conditions. Kola was among them but was later adopted by the Rosens, who have been nursing her back to health.
The Rosens say the dog may still have a pink collar on her neck and a purple bandage on her leg. Anyone with information about Kola's whereabouts is asked to call the Clarkstown Police Department.
