Police say a Mount Vernon man was shot in the head early Sunday morning in front of his South 7th Avenue apartment.

Corey Ragland, 21, is in extremely critical condition after being shot outside his apartment at 132 South 7th Ave at around 5:00 a.m. Police say someone ran by, opened fire and took off. Ragland was shot in the head and left for dead on the street, according to police. The victim was discovered by his cousin, Lee Alston.

?We came outside, and to find your family lying down in the street, it's just terrible,? Alston says.

Police say they believe this shooting was planned. They ask that anyone who witnessed the crime or has information to please call the Mount Vernon Police Department at 914-665-2588. All calls will be kept confidential.
