Lingering nor'easter flooding causes messy commute

The severe weather that has wreaked havoc across Westchester caused an ugly commute for drivers Friday.Flooding shut down numerous roads in the area, including parts of the Bronx River Parkway, the Saw Mill River Parkway and the Hutchinson River Parkway. Flooding on the Saw Mill diverted traffic onto the Taconic Parkway, causing major back-ups. Some drivers were stuck in place for nearly an hour.
In Orange and Rockland counties, parts of Route 9W and the Palisades Parkway were shut due to flooding and downed trees. Drivers are still being urged to allow extra time to get to their destinations and to drive slowly due to the weather conditions.
About 8,000 homes and businesses were left without power in Orange County when the rain turned to ice. States of emergency have been declared in some Orange communities. News 12 Hudson Valley Weather Center
