Residents headed out early to the Palisades Center Mall for those Black Friday sales.

Some shoppers stood in line overnight to get a head start on the bargains. This year, many say they wanted to get out early and save due to the poor economy. Others just say they wanted to save big bucks on hot items, such as flat-screen televisions and Xbox 360.

Retailers say they hope the large crowds on Black Friday are an indicator of the holiday shopping season.
