Mount Hope Girl Scouts camp vandalized

A Girl Scouts camp in Mount Hope was vandalized a few weeks ago, sustaining thousands of dollars in damages, police say.
Police say the hooligans ignored the ?no trespassing? sign and entered the gate of Camp Birch, shattering windows, tearing out screens and destroying supplies, including taxidermy animals used for zoology lessons.
?I think they're heartless people,? says Janet Siano, who works in the area. ?These girls work hard for their money and their projects.?
The damage was discovered this week, days before the Scouts were expected to arrive at the camp, although police believe the vandals struck the camp around Halloween.
The Girl Scouts are now thinking of installing video surveillance cameras at the camp. In the meantime, police are continuing to search for the vandals, who will face felony charges of criminal mischief and grand larceny.
Anyone with information about the vandalism incident is asked to 914-386-9442. All calls will be kept confidential.
