Lawyer: County aide won't pay for alleged purchases
The lawyer of a top Westchester County legislative aide who is accused of spending thousands of dollars on unauthorized items says his client won't pay back any money.
After the allegations against Gary Kriss surfaced in June, members of the Westchester County Board wanted him to produce proof that the purchases he made were legitimate and that taxpayer money wasn't misused.
Kriss, who is the chief adviser to Westchester County Board of Legislators Chairman Bill Ryan, is accused of using a county-issued credit card to send about $2,500 worth of items, including computer printers and screenwriting software, to his South Salem home.
A letter sent by Kriss' attorney to the county board last week reportedly indicates that Kriss will not cooperate with a committee's investigation of the allegations.
The Special Committee on Internal Control says it plans to meet Monday to discuss suspending Kriss without pay.
