Westchester Democrats celebrate Obama win
Exhilarated Westchester Democrats gathered across the county Tuesday night to celebrate the election of the first African-American president. After watching President-elect Barack Obama deliver his victory speech in Chicago, Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D) addressed a crowd of 500 in White Plains, calling Obama?s win a ?great victory for Democrats.? Although this outcome had been expected by many, hearing the results was overwhelming to some.Obama?s victory brought a long, divisive and often ruthless campaign against Sen. John McCain (R- Ariz.) to a close while opening a new chapter in American history.?Join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together,? McCain said in his concession speech.Local Democrats, however, have long been ready to stand behind Obama as he embarks on his difficult mission of reshaping the country. ?He's not in this alone,? says Westchester County Executive Andy Spano. ?We're all in this together, and that includes Westchester County.?
