Food pantries struggle to keep up with demand
Local food pantries are reporting a strain on food supply as the economic crisis continues, leaving more people struggling just to put food on the dinner table.
Denise Thibault, of the Florida Community Food Pantry, says there's probably a 20 percent increase of new people coming into the pantry. "We're seeing people that never before were in a financial crisis," she says.
With the increase in demand, area food pantries are having trouble keeping up. "We're seeing less and less food," says Thibault. "Less and less."
As a result, local pantries have been spreading the word that they need more donations.
So far, Florida Community and another area pantry, Warwick Ecumenical Council, say there's been a great response from members of the community who have stepped up and started donating.
