8 injured as car smashes into Hillcrest deli
Eight people were sent to the hospital Wednesday after a driver lost control of her car and slammed into a Rockland deli, police say.
A 45-year-old woman from Spring Valley was behind the wheel of her Toyota Camry when she drove through the front doors of Kathy's Bagels, located on North Main Street in Hillcrest.
Police say the car was moving in reverse when it jumped the curb and hit the deli.
"It's chaos. There's shattered glass everywhere. The counters are pushed back," says witness Max Champagne.
Among those injured were three police officers buying lunch at the deli. An employee was pinned against the counter and suffered internal injuries and a broken leg, while the driver and passenger were also taken to the hospital for observation.
Everyone is expected to be OK and no charges have been filed against the driver.
