Maybrook cop strikes, kills teen en route to emergency

Posted: Updated:

Authorities say a 19-year-old was accidentally struck and killed by a veteran Maybrook police officer on his way to an emergency call Sunday night.

Police say that Tiffany Weddle was walking across Route 208 in Montgomery when Officer John Bennett hit her. So far, Montgomery police have not said if speed played a role in the tragedy. Police say it looks like an accident on a poorly lit road in heavy rain.

Weddle?s family is deeply saddened by the accident. ?She would always help and be friendly to everyone,? says her Uncle Dallas. ?Full of life. Beautiful life. ?

Officer Bennett has not been charged in the teen?s death.
