Kiryas Joel fire destroys 2 ambulances

Posted: Updated:

An early morning fire Monday destroyed two ambulances in Kiryas Joel.

The ambulances were used by volunteer EMTs in the community. Fire officials say the blaze was an accidental electrical fire. The vehicles were worth more than $300,000 combined.

Firefighters were forced to smash through windows of the building where the ambulances were kept. According to officials, the amount of water used to fight the flames is what caused extensive damage to the second vehicle.

The volunteer EMTs are now looking for donations to get new ambulances. In the meantime, the town will use a loaner ambulance from Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
