Reverend Tasered in alleged standoff

Posted: Updated:

Police used a Taser gun Monday to subdue a reverend as she allegedly held an employee hostage in Nyack.

Police say the Rev. Patricia Ackerman, an Episcopalian priest, started her day by going over business with a 21-year-old female employee of Ackerman's charity.

However, Ackerman allegedly prevented the employee from leaving her home office. Ackerman could be seen perched in the window of her Nyack apartment with a laptop. Onlookers gathered on the street as the scene unfolded.

Police eventually managed to defuse the situation by using a Taser gun on Ackerman, who was forced to the floor and handcuffed. She was taken away by ambulance. The employee, who appeared to be dazed, was examined by EMTs.

A spokesperson for the Orangetown Police Department says charges will not be filed against Ackerman.
