Commuter bus company relieved costly strike is over
Coach USA/ShortLine buses will hit Rockland and Orange county streets Wednesday after a costly 12-day strike.
Drivers, mechanics and ticket agents went on strike nearly two weeks ago. Commuters who felt stranded are now relieved, as are the Local 225 Transport Workers Union and bus company.
"Memorial Day weekend is one of our biggest weekends for our long haul service and our [ridership has] been up dramatically, so this is gonna cost the company several hundred thousand dollars," said ShortLine President George Grieve.
The buses have been parked in Mahwah, N.J. since the strike was called. They're being serviced and cleaned before they hit the roads again Wednesday, June 4 at 3 a.m.
The union accepted a contract Monday that includes a 4.5 percent pay hike next year. Vacation, overtime and 401k pay were also increased.
Coach USA/ShortLine provides service to and from Manhattan.
