Sugar Loaf taxpayers not too happy with new libraryPosted: Updated:
As Warwick celebrates the groundbreaking of its new library, some taxpayers in the Sugar Loaf section of Chester aren?t too happy.
Warwick residents recently approved an $8.5 million plan to build a new library that will be four times larger than the current one. However, residents in the Sugar Loaf section of Chester are upset because they are double-taxed.
Due to the districting of the Warwick and Chester libraries, Sugar Loaf residents pay taxes for both establishments.
Chester Town Supervisor Steven Neuhaus believes the solution lies in a bill being debated in the state Legislature. The bill would allow Sugar Loaf residents to pull out of Warwick?s library district and just pay taxes for the Chester library.
The Warwick library board says it?s committed to ending the double-taxing.
