Coach USA workers decided to strike effective Friday, leaving Rockland County residents looking for a way to work.
The vote came Thursday after threatening to strike for weeks. About 240 drivers, mechanics and ticket agents belong to the striking Local 225 of the Transport Workers Union of America.
The employees want a new three-year contract. They've been working without one since mid-April. Coach USA offered pay increases, but the union rejected the offer last Friday.
About 3,000 Rockland and Bergen county residents rely on Coach USA buses, but only travel into New York City would be affected by the strike.
"It would be complicated because I know a lot of people take the bus because of gas prices," says Nanuet resident John Ricketts. "I think it would be a major problem for a lot of people."
